Alissa Hughes has been an Indiana-licensed, ASHA-certified Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) since 2013. She received her undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders (Psychology minor) at Butler University and her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Indiana University Bloomington. She’s worked for years as an IN First Steps early interventionist, with adults in the subacute and home health settings, in an outpatient pediatric clinic, and is now following her heart with her business.

Alissa has an extensive medical knowledge-base as a therapist and medically complex parent.

In 2019, Alissa’s job as an SLP became personal when she became a medical mom. Alissa has two children (Hayley- age 5 and Tripp age-3). Tripp was diagnosed with heart disease prenatally, and then CHARGE syndrome when he was born. He has single-sided deafness and wears BAHA hearing aids and has had 10 surgeries thus far in his short life (3 open-heart surgeries). Alissa’s personal passion and mission is equipping parents to access answers about development, whenever the need arises.

SLP Mom

This is a poem that I wrote for my son. I hope that this can give you a glimpse of my passion for being an SLP, and how I am different from most other speech language therapists.
